PBS Timeline Shows US-Iran War Lasted Many Weeks
PBS reported on April 21 that Donald J. Trump’s shifting public statements showed the US-Iran war had been underway from late February or March and remained a subject of ongoing or near-resolution discussion in mid-to-late April. Following the PBS report, prediction P018 was recorded as confirmed.
Professor Jiang Xueqin made the call in March 2026 in “Game Theory #9: The US-Iran War,” a lecture published on March 3. Jiang assigned the prediction high confidence and gave it a timeline of weeks to years from March 2026: “The US-Iran war will last many weeks, possibly many years.”
What Happened
PBS published a timeline on April 21 under the headline “A timeline of Trump's shifting statements about how long the Iran war will last.” The automated fact-checker concluded that the timeline satisfied the “many weeks” portion of Jiang’s prediction because the war was described as underway from late February or March and still being discussed as ongoing or only near resolution in mid-to-late April.
The status of prediction P018 changed on May 25, 2026, from partially confirmed to confirmed. That resolution rests on the duration threshold in the original forecast: Jiang did not need the war to last years for the prediction to clear the lower bound he stated in March.
The PBS timeline resolves the prediction on its shorter horizon. The longer phrase, “possibly many years,” remains unproven, but the prediction’s wording allowed for a weeks-long outcome as a sufficient case.
Track Record Context
This is the 10th confirmed prediction among 22 resolved predictions in the tracker. Counting partial confirmations as hits, Jiang’s resolved record now stands at 86%, with 10 confirmed predictions, 9 partially confirmed predictions and 3 wrong predictions out of 305 total tracked predictions.
That denominator matters. Most of the tracker remains unresolved: 283 predictions are still pending, unverifiable or not yet due. The system now includes 152 source lectures, 88 of them transcribed, so each new resolution changes the headline accuracy rate more than it would in a larger resolved sample.
Prediction P018 belongs to the US-Iran War category. The current resolution records the duration claim as confirmed while leaving other predictions in the full data set to be judged separately as new evidence arrives.
What's Still Unknown
This resolution does not establish that the US-Iran war will last many years, nor does it judge any claim beyond the duration language in P018. It records that PBS’s April 21 timeline satisfied the “many weeks” threshold in Jiang’s original March 2026 prediction.
